Pilgrims Together
This Advent we are learning The Story: that humanity was Created out of love and for love, Captured by sin and death, Rescued through Jesus Christ’s incarnation, death, and resurrection, and called to Respond to this great gift. This isn’t just the story of humanity, but yours and mine as well! We live this story as pilgrims journeying to the Heavenly Feast.
These last two months have reminded me and my family of this reality: that we are pilgrims! Although I was beginning to suspect it, I didn’t realize how comfortable our lives were in Greeley. God had blessed us abundantly with friends and neighbors, good jobs, and a parish family. But I confess that my faith and zeal for souls, my Response to being Rescued, had grown stagnant, lazy, and soft. I lost perspective of the journey - of the story. When I’m lost, I find the Lord often throws wrenches in my plans to get my attention and remind me who I am and what I’m made for.
So, this Advent, I thank the Lord for shaking up my life, for calling me back to active ministry for His Kingdom, and for reminding me this pilgrimage is best journeyed together. As the Lord has encouraged me in prayer, so I encourage you now: entering into the week before Christmas, gather your friends and family around you and invite them to celebrate the joy of Christmas like the three wisemen – as pilgrims.
