Safe and Sound

St. Francis of Assisi has “boots on the ground” at the 2024 Eucharistic Congress. Parishioner Dennis Graham will be sharing his insights from this "once in a generation" event!

On the second day of our journey to the Eucharistic Congress we encountered violent weather in the midsection of Illinois. Roads were flooded and closed, tornadoes spotted, drenching rain that reduced driving visibility to a few feet. But in truth, we were inside a protected automobile with conditioned air and heat and pleasant music and all the comforts, while the storm raged around us. It gave me pause: how did the early pilgrims who traveled by foot to distant holy sites, exposed to the elements for days on end, actually do that? What level of faith and desire for our Lord must they have had to persevere through such adversity? My other thought was that of being in the embrace of The Church, the Ark, the “auto” that Jesus left us that offers shelter from a world of violence and danger and spiritual threat.

It’s going to be a great week here in Indy.
