2nd Day and Counting
St. Francis of Assisi has “boots on the ground” at the 2024 Eucharistic Congress. Parishioner Dennis Graham will be sharing his insights from this "once in a generation" event!
2nd day, Thursday, July 18. We are finally getting into the flow of the EC. Liturgy starts in Lucas Stadium with the Rosary at 8am, Mass at 8:30, first session until noon, quick lunch if time permits, 2nd session until 4-ish, then grab something for dinner and back to the stadium for the evening session until 10pm, or so.
A few great quotes from recent sessions.
Sister Bethany Madonna: “ Q. Why did Jesus have to die? A. If you love someone you prove it.” And advice she was given by a loving priest who supported her at a time she felt abandoned by God: “Is Jesus asleep in your boat? Give him a pillow.”
In his homily during Mass Cardinal Dolan recalled asking a Jewish Rabii to explain to him the complex Jewish Feast Days. His Jewish friend summarized in three pithy sentences: “ They tried to kill us. God saved us. Let’s eat.”
In the next evening presentation, Fr. Mike Schmitz emphasized the need for repentance as the starting point for this Eucharistic Revival, and for every revival in the history of the Church. He went on to describe what Jesus might have told the two disciples on the road to Emmaus that made them exclaim, “Did not our hearts not burn within us” as he spoke. My heart burned within me as Fr. Mike described what Jesus might have said. He went on to warn about learning Catholic theology without personally knowing Jesus. He said, “Knowledge makes can make us great, but love makes a saint.”
More later!
