(Compiled by a mom, for all our moms!)

Mother’s Day is just around the corner and if your family is anything like mine, we’re not always sure what to give to mom to celebrate her. So, to aid you in your quest, my wife Gabriela compiled a list of shops run by Catholic artists, jewelers, designers and a few books to help elevate Mom’s spirits on her day and beyond. Compiled by a mom, for all of our moms!

The Most Important Gift: Prayer

Pray for your Mom! Say the rosary with her or offer it for her. This is an easy one to make Our Mother in heaven happy, too. If you’re going for a coupon book, make sure to include a rosary or two in there.

  • Have a Mass said for your mom’s intentions (or her eternal rest) at our parish. This is THE gift that keeps on giving.

  • Give her a subscription to the Hallow app. A Catholic prayer and meditation app that’s helping thousands refresh their prayer habits and deepen their relationship with the Lord.

  • A subscription to the Magnificat app (or the printed booklet) will give her the treasure of daily prayer with the Church, gospel meditations and more.

Support Catholic Shops

The list of Catholic shops and their styles is as varied as the Church herself. Here are a few we like:

  • Telos Art Jewelry to help her remember what matters most. Telos Art makes delicate jewelry pieces to honor the Eucharist, Our Blessed Mother, St. Joseph and much more.

  • Pax Beloved Modern illustrations of timeless moments. Her prints bring to life the lives of the Saints. Mom will love to meditate with this print of a tender moment between St. Joseph and the Child Jesus.

  • Zellie and Lou - Apparel, stickers, prints and accessories. For the hip evangelizer mom, fun, modern designs with quotes from her favorite saints.

For the mom who has been paying attention to Father Jim’s homilies, how about a shirt to remind her to “thank God ahead of time”!

  • Rough to Rustic - Faithful and inspirational handmade art. Her rosary hangers and silhouette carved crucifixes serve as constant reminders to pray!

  • Modern Saint - They create meaningful, stunning pieces, with the hope to remind you of your larger family, and that you’ll draw others in, simply by wearing something beautiful that glorifies God. These pieces might be reserved for special occasions and will be cherished for years (maybe generations) to come!

  • Stella & Tide - Dainty, lovely jewelry that doesn’t break the bank. To the St. Therese of Lisieux's fan, this wildflower necklace will remind her that we don’t all need to be roses.

  • Santa Clara Designs - Help her create a sacred space in the everyday.

  • Abiding Together - The ladies who bring you the award winning podcast, have created a small, curated selection of studies, mugs, apparel, paper and stickers. Check out their Saint Story Cards, a great gift for the mom who loves the saints and wants to learn and teach about their lives:

  • The Chosen gifts - If you haven’t started watching The Chosen, the first multi-season show about the life of Jesus, get on it -really, you won’t regret it! Make mom a fan, too with some of their gifts and support the show!

Books, Studies and Entertainment

There are so many books to choose from when it comes to lifting Mom’s spirits and help her learn more about her faith. Here are a few ideas:

  • A Place to Belong - Twenty-five women from various backgrounds, interests, and states in life—including mothers, religious sisters, entrepreneurs, artists, activists, and authors—explore the many ways women live out their unique attentiveness to the human person in the family, in the Church, and in the world.

  • Oremus: A Guide to Catholic Prayer - Learn the Essentials of a Fruitful Prayer Life. Do you find it easy to pray? Do you hear God’s voice in your daily life and know how to respond? For most of us the answer is no, and we struggle to find even a few minutes every day to pray. The good news is that you can overcome these difficulties. Oremus teaches you the essentials of an effective and fruitful prayer life. Over eight weeks you will learn the simple yet profound steps of Catholic prayer. Following Church Tradition and the wisdom of the saints, you will learn to talk to God and hear his voice in Scripture, in your heart, and in ordinary moments. You will become more aware of his close presence, will learn to overcome distractions and dryness, and will recognize desolation and consolation as normal prayer experiences. As you grow closer to God, you will also grow in your relationship with those around you.

  • The Word on Fire Catholic Bible - The first volume of the Word on Fire Catholic Bible - The Gospels- has been called “a Cathedral in print”. This is not a study Bible. Its goal is not merely to transmit historical knowledge or textual insight. It is also not a devotional Bible, offering self-improvement tips. The mission of this Bible is evangelical. It is meant to introduce not mere facts but a person: Jesus Christ. It aims to do that by unveiling Christ throughout each chapter and verse of the Gospels, leading readers to a life-changing encounter with him.

  • Embracing Weakness by Shannon Evans. Embracing Weakness: The Unlikely Secret to Changing the World explores how a radical acceptance of one's own shadow side can birth a more whole and merciful response to the weaknesses of others. Through examining the Incarnation and Passion of Jesus, as well as her own life experiences as a missionary, adoptive mother, and Catholic Worker activist, the author forms the argument that the greatest potential for social and relational change comes not through a demonstration of power, but through smallness, authenticity, and empathy.

  • Nunc Copei: A Year of Prayer - Blessed is She - Nunc coepi means Now I begin. This year-long personal prayer book offers insights from spiritual masters, Scripture selections for lectio divina focused on prayer, weekly reflection questions, and an invitation into deeper and more abiding prayer every day of your year.

Support a local organization in her name

  • Buy a Brick to help Marisol Health: When you buy a brick for mom, you help support Marisol Health. Your brick, included with its personalized message, will pave a walkway forming a cross in the center of the Stations of the Cross Garden at Marisol Health Denver.  Don't forget to mark your calendars! All bricks will be blessed on Sunday, August 15th, 2021 at 10am.

    Purchase a brick here: https://ccdenv.ejoinme.org/beacon-bricks

That’s it for now. We hope this post helps you find something mom will love and cherish, and that will bring her closer to God. What’s a favorite book or Catholic shop we missed and you or your mom like?
