The Eucharistic Congress
July, 2024, Lucas Stadium in Indianapolis.
As the Congress begins, the four branches of the National Eucharistic Pilgrimage will converge at the venue in a powerful symbol of Catholic Unity. Then gathered as one Church – we will present our wounded and imperfect hearts to the Triune God, who loves us just as he did on the road to Emmaus. Our Lord will listen to our worries and reveal himself once more in the breaking of the bread.
Wednesday July 17th. Arrivals and check-in begins at 10am. At 5:45pm the Eucharistic Procession into Lucas Oil Stadium begins and kicks off the Congress. At 7:30 pm the general session #1 begins as a powerful family reunion, as Catholics from around the country are welcomed and united into “One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Faith – in the worship of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist."
Thursday – July 18th. During the first full day of the Congress participants will receive a clear Kerygmatic proclamation inviting them to intimate relationship with the person of Jesus Christ. Through out the second general session we are reminded of the greatest love story ever written, to believe in Jesus Christ who nourishes us and sustains us through the Eucharist.
Friday – July 19th. During this second full day of the Congress, our eyes will be opened to the effects of sin, and the healing that Our Lord wants to give us. The Congress not only focuses on individual healing, physical, mental, and spiritual, but also to recognize where we as a Church have failed seeking healing and repentance that is needed to heal the “Body of Christ”. Then once purified and restored, our hearts will burn with renewed zeal.
Saturday – July 20th. Today through scriptural formation, the communion of the Body of Christ, the reception of Sacramental Grace and fervent prayer, we will become prepared and empowered to be Eucharistic Missionaries, true disciples of Jesus Christ to live out the Gospel in our love of God and neighbor.
Sunday - July 21st. Pope Francis said the Eucharist is a summons to “go Forth, as missionaries, to bring the message of the Father’s tenderness, forgiveness and mercy to every man, woman, and child”. On this the last day of the Congress we will be commissioned to go out as missionary disciples as we enter the 3rd year of the Eucharistic Revival – “The Year of Mission”.
Parishioners are already asking if we will think about a pilgrimage from our parish to the Congress. I ask all of you to pray about this, costs just for the Congress are $300 per person and this does not include food, lodging, or transportation. If there is enough interest, we will put together a team to investigate further, please drop me an email if you are interested in going and if you would be interested in helping us organize a pilgrimage: deacongeorge@sfassisi.org
