What is Jesus' Blood Type?

Eucharistic miracle of Lanciano, Italy

In the year 750 in Lanciano, Italy, a monastic priest doubted the True Presence. As he celebrated Mass and said the words of consecration, the Host turned into flesh and the wine turned into blood. This was shown to all those present at the Mass that day, and to this day it still remains available for veneration!

After receiving papal approval, the Archbishop of Lanciano had this miracle scientifically investigated in 1971. The investigation revealed the following conclusions about this ancient miracle:

  • immunologic studies confirmed both the tissue and blood were of human origin

  • it was authentic flesh consisting of the muscular striated tissue of the myocardium

  • it was authentic blood by chromatographic analysis

  • immuno-hematologic studies confirmed the blood type was AB (the same as that detected on the Shroud of Turin!)

  • Protein electrophoresis confirmed the protein in the blood had a normal distribution and percentage as that of normal fresh blood.

This miracle is still on display in the church of San Francesco in Lanciano, Italy. It has been conserved in its natural state for over 12 centuries without any preservative. This is itself a miracle and remains unexplained.
