Servant of God Marthe Robin
France 1902-1981
(From the Vatican catalogue of The Eucharistic Miracles of the World Exhibition)
Marthe Robin was born in Chateauneuf - de- Galaure, France, to a family of peasants and spent her entire life in her parents’ home. Marthe’s entire existence revolved around Jesus in the Eucharist, who was for her the one who heals, consoles, sustains, and blesses – her “everything.”
In 1928, after a serious illness, Marthe found herself almost completely paralyzed. It was especially hard for her to swallow. Moreover, due to eye issues, she was forced to live in absolute darkness. According to her spiritual director, Fr. Finet, “when she received the stigmata in October of 1930, Marthe had already experienced the pains of the Passion suffered by Christ.” Marthe offered herself as a victim of love. That very day, Jesus said to her that she was chosen next to the Blessed Virgin Mary to live the Passion more intensely. He added that each day she would suffer more, and at night she would no longer be able to sleep. After receiving the stigmata, Marthe was no longer able to eat or drink.
The ecstasy lasted for several days, and she accepted all these sufferings out of love for Jesus. Although paralyzed, Marthe managed to accomplish starting 60 homes of light and charity called the “Foyers of Charity” throughout the world. Truly, with Jesus, all things are possible.
