RAINBOW IN THE SKY: A SIGN OF GOD’S COVENANT
"I set my bow in the clouds to serve as a sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Gen. 9:13"
I am blessed and amazed at how God’s love and grace works in and through one another, here at St. Francis of Assisi. This weekend’s 1st reading of Genesis 9: 8-15, reminds me of a special way that God showed himself as a reminder of his covenant with us.
Some time ago, I met a woman who was distraught as she was going through a sorrowful and stressful time. We shared this reading, as a reminder that all would be well, as long as she stayed close to our Lord and remained faithful. We prayed about how his promises to her, and His love for all of us, would not fail. I shared with her how whenever I see a rainbow in the sky, I thank Him and embrace that promise of his covenant with us.
So, this is how God works… the next appointment I had with her, I received a framed picture of a beautiful rainbow in the sky. She told me that she had been at a park, praying and crying out to the Lord for help. She looked up, and most unbelievably, there was this rainbow as a gift from God. She said that this sign from Him was all she needed to totally give everything to Him as she experienced immediate healing in the form of Faith, Hope, Love and Peace.
As our responsorial psalm says, “Your ways, O Lord, are love and truth to those who keep your covenant.” May we all be encouraged by God’s promises of His covenant with us, as we strive to remain faithful to him.
