A Recent Eucharistic Miracle 2013

Eucharistic miracles occur every day in the Eucharistic celebration, but we usually are not aware of their occurrence. It is believed that miracles observed occur where there is a need to deepen one’s faith in the Divine Presence.

On Christmas Day 2013, in the Church of Saint Hyacinth in Legnica, Poland, a consecrated host fell to the floor. The proper protocol requires that any host thought contaminated for consumption should be placed in a vessel filled with water. Usually, it dissolves within several days and the water is then poured into the ground, as the Real Presence is felt to cease on the disappearance of the Host. (If a hosts falls to the ground here at SFA – we are asked to consume it immediately, or give the host to Deacon George and he will place it into a chalice of water, to be stored in the tabernacle until the host dissolves).

In this case, red stains appeared. The host was examined by the Department of Forensic Medicine in Szczecin. The subsequent report stated, “In the histological image [seen under a microscope], the fragments were found containing the fragmented parts of the cross-striated muscle. It is most similar to the heart muscle.”

DNA analysis confirmed human tissue. Similar to the miracle of Lanciano, the tissue also had alterations seen when muscle is subjected to stress.

In April 2016, the bleeding Host was approved for veneration by Bishop Zbigniew Kiernikowski of Legnica who said, it “has the hallmarks of a Eucharistic miracle”.
